Second hand games.

No, I'm not talking about new releases that steal all the gameplay and content from previous releases. I'm talking about all those slightly dog-eared games sitting in your local Game/Gamestation/Cash Converter.

I take the point with this and see that they think they're losing money on second hand games. But surely many of the games that are traded in (essential food for the second hand market) are traded in so that people can offset the price of a new game?

Let's face it games are expensive for the average user and using a completed game that's collecting dust to reduce that cost makes a lot of sense.

I think the second hand market fuels interest in the area, in a similar (though more legal) way that I believe the fact that the PS1 was so easily chipped contributed to it wiping the floor with the N64.

I think I've only ever traded once (way back), cos I'm a hoarder who can't bear to part with stuff (yep, I've even got my copy of the Spice Girls game for the PS1, bought in the name of research obviously!), but I have bought quite a few second hand games, but mainly stuff that I wouldn't otherwise have bought.

Of course if the replay value of games was high enough to stop people trading them the market would disappear overnight!
